2010 AAPD Annual Meeting - Chicago Style!
Hello ISPD members!
As you all are aware, the 63rd AAPD Annual Session will be held in Chicago, May 27-30, 2010, so please block out the dates on your calendar now. We are extremely privileged and excited to host this meeting. In order for the annual session to be a success, as with all of the annual sessions, it will require that all of the ISPD members participate in some manner or form to make this a meeting to be remembered! There are many aspects of the meeting that require volunteers to help with the flow of the meeting, from the scientific portion, the meeting rooms, to informal information tables in the hotels and assistance at the social events. Participation is needed from everyone, and we want to thank you all in advance!
We would like to give you a brief overview of the 63rd annual session. First, the headquarters hotel will be the Chicago Hilton and Towers on Michigan Avenue. The annual session will proceed as usual with a foundation meeting on Thursday, the welcome reception on Thursday evening, and the scientific portion of the meeting to be held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We will hold the welcome reception in the three hotel ballrooms, and the theme will be "A taste of Chicago", at which, the current plan is to have Blues artists and music playing throughout the ballrooms, Jake and Elwood roaming around, and food stations that are indicative of traditional Chicago (deep dish pizza, Chicago style hot dogs, and Italian beef to name a few) and several other famous Chicago types of food, similar to the Taste in Grant Park. The golf outing is tentatively planned to be held at Cog Hill. The President’s farewell dinner dance will be held at the new Modern Art wing of the Chicago Art Institute and the New Dentists’ reception will be held at Buddy Guy's Legends.
We would like you to choose to volunteer in whatever aspects of the annual session you would be most interested. Some may find the scientific portion more exciting, while others may desire to volunteer for a social event. Please respond by sending us your preferences by ordering them #1 as the portion for which you would most want to volunteer, #2 for your second choice, and #3 for your third. We will do our best to accommodate your preferences, but some committees will fill up fast, and I would encourage you to respond as early as possible.
Your choices are as follows:
1. Scientific Committee: Room monitors, moderators
2. HSHC/Densply Research Poster competition Committee.
3. Social Events Committee
4. Commercial Exhibitors Committee.
5. CPR/PALS Training Committee
6. Sports Committee
7. Other
Please email your choices to May Stern by October 19, 2009. We look forward to seeing you at the ISPD meeting on October 30, 2009 at the ADA Building. A registration form is available on line at ILSPD.org or use the brochure sent to you in the mail.
After we have assembled the groups of individuals to serve on each of the committees, we will appoint a committee head/chair, who will be the primary contact. All information will be shared with you and everyone on your and other committees in order to keep everyone informed and in the loop.
Spouses who may wish to participate or volunteer are welcome to do so. At this time, we are not opening up volunteer spots to staff members, but there may be some positions where they may be able to be of help closer to the annual session.
We will be preparing several requested items prior to the annual session. The most sought after item at this time is a list of our local favorite restaurants, bars, activities, places to go, and things to do. Yes, this can all be found on the web or the Chicago Bureau of Tourism, but members have suggested and requested the local members’ input and ideas. We will link this to the web sites, provide info in the AAPD publications, and at the annual session at hotel tables and various sites.
Again, we want to thank you all in advance for your time and participation. I know we can all pitch in and make this one of the best annual sessions the AAPD has ever seen!
